San Diego Sport Flyers is by far the best flight school available in Southern California. They offer a fun and exciting state-of-the-art fleet of sport aircraft. I did my training in a Gobosh and after my first flight I completely fell in love with the plane, with its sleek low-wing design and stick & rudder, seat-of-the-pants feel. These sport planes sure beat the boring 30 year old Cessna's that most other flight schools use. I live in Carlsbad and I had planned on doing my flight training at Palomar airport, just a few miles from my house. I did demo flights with all of the schools at Palomar and found their facilities and aircraft to be satisfactory. However, when I learned about San Diego Sport Flyers from looking at their website, I was impressed with their facility and their fleet of aircraft. When I drove down and took my demo flight I knew I had to do my training through them.
I was impressed not only by their fun sport aircraft, but also by their state-of-the-art facility. They have an excellent office and briefing room with an FAA certified flight simulator to save money and practice emergencies. Along with excellent planes and a nice facility, the staff is what makes sport flyers a truly unique and pleasurable flight training experience. They have become like family to me and I look forward to seeing them as much as I look forward to the actual flight. For all of these reasons I chose to drive 50 minutes each way down and back to Gillespie Field to ensure that I had the best and most affordable flight training experience. I would definitely recommend San Diego Sportflyers. I started my training at another school in the area flying 20-30 year old aircraft. I decided to switch to SD Sportflyers for the last 20 hours of my training. My instructor, Steve Joiner, was very professional and eager to share his knowledge. I received my private pilots license fairly quickly after joining their club. The aircraft were new, with great maintenance and fun to fly. Overall, SD Sportflyers is a top notch organization with great people. The owners Mike and Tom make you feel like you are part of their family.

"The day after passing my PPL checkride, I walked across the street to San Diego Sportflyers and entered a new world. After spending two months flying the flight schools really old, worn down Cessnas and not enjoying the atmosphere. San Diego Sport Flyers turned out to be something completely different.
I never imagined myself flying that little beautiful red airplane I had seen for the last weeks outside the airport restuarant at Gillespie Field. But there I was, sure! You'll fly it tomorrow someone said. One hour later at Starbucks with the Gobosh POH in my hand it felt more real.
The Gobosh became my second home for more than six weeks. In the end I also flew the Sting Sport for some hours, quite different but equally nice. On a couple of occasions some of my old instructors walked up to me begging me to take them for a ride in the Gobosh ;-)
I have never visited a more friendly business anywhere. Besides offering everything, and I really mean everything you will need as a pilot when it comes to technical support. A brand new Garmin 496 GPS beats a non-working nav-radio in the old Cessnas. And the briefing room is a dream. I still think the way these guys make you feel, is the big secret with San Diego Sport Flyers.
It's hard to find a company where they make you feel like family. I often found myself spending time there, even days when the weather was to bad for flying. There was always time for a coffee, old stories and some laughs. I will definitely return soon, looking forward to fly the Sport Cruiser this time. But the Gobosh will always be "my airplane" "
